The North America Nebula

North America Nebula (NGC 7000)

The North America Nebula (NGC 7000) is a vast emission nebula in Cygnus whose glowing hydrogen clouds and dark dust lanes create its distinctive continent-like shape. One of its most striking regions is the Cygnus Wall, corresponding roughly to the Mexico and Central America portion of the nebula, an area of dense gas and dust associated with active star formation.

This image was captured from Night Sky Observatory in Reisterstown, Maryland, under Bortle 5 skies using a William Optics ZS61, ZWO ASI533MC Pro, and Antlia Tri-Band RGB Ultra filter. It combines 90 two-minute exposures for 3 hours of total integration. The image was processed in PixInsight with BlurXTerminator, NoiseXTerminator, and StarXTerminator, with final work in PaintShop Pro.

Interesting note: The image was processed without flat-field calibration frames, yet the result was good enough that no additional correction was needed.
